Reader Praises Maryland Delegate Kathy Szeliga for Battling the Forces Looking to Make Maryland the Next Sanctuary State

A regular reader of RRW and ‘Frauds and Crooks‘, Michael Peppe, praised MD Delegate Kathy Szeliga in a comment to another post.

I thought it was important enough to post his praise as a stand alone post here at ‘Frauds and Crooks’ where I haven’t talked much about the sanctuary issue.

The Open Borders activists in Maryland are pushing for Maryland to join the list of Sanctuary States in the US and law enforcement officers from around the state are fighting back with the help of one tough member of the Maryland House of Delegates.

Here is Michael Peppe’s comment to me:

Angel families (families whose loved ones were killed by illegal immigrants), legal immigrants, law enforcement and legislators joined us in Annapolis as we rallied against HB 388, said Delegate Szeliga in a recent newsletter to constituents.

Maryland State Delegate Kathy Szeliga has written a truly chilling, horrifying and eye-opening newsletter to her constituents about her fight to stop activists and Democrats from making Maryland a “Sanctuary State”.

Delegate Szeliga https://msa.maryland.gov/msa/mdmanual/06hse/html/msa15446.html

Among other things, she recounts two heartbreaking anecdotes, one of a 14-year-old girl, witness to a crime, who was brutally murdered by thugs who were able to do so, having been released by a Sanctuary County, undeported, thwarting an ICE detainer. Another story recounts an eleven year old girl, molested by her own illegal Mexican grandfather, who’d been similarly released to do so, again contrary to an ICE detainer.

“Disturbing” doesn’t even cover it. Here’s an excerpt:

Crime continues to be the number one issue people across our state are concerned about. Baltimore City has been named the most dangerous city in America after 4 years of record murders and shootings. Making Maryland a sanctuary state will make our state more dangerous and put violent criminals on the streets. Shielding criminal illegal immigrants from law enforcement harms innocent people.

Take the case of 14 year old Ariana Funes-Diaz in Prince George’s County less than one year ago. She witnessed an assault and stepped in to stop it. When those involved worried she could tell the police, she was brutally murdered; forced to strip, beaten with a baseball bat, slashed with a machete, her dead body left in a tunnel. Two of her three killers were jailed a year prior on a robbery case and instead of cooperating with the ICE detainer, corrections officials released them back into the community. They are MS13 gang members, had previously committed crimes elsewhere in the USA and had been deported.

But here’s the real heart of the issue, succinctly put:

Repeat violent offenders, regardless of their immigration status, should be in prison, not released back into our communities. If repeat criminals are illegally in this country, they must be deported after they serve their sentence – every time! The crimes committed by illegal immigrants are often times not isolated incidents. A July 2018 Government Accountability Office report noted that the 197,000 criminal illegal immigrants incarcerated in federal prisons during fiscal year 2011 through 2016 had been arrested about 1.4 million times and accused of approximately 2 million offenses, about 10 crimes each.

Two million crimes!!  Heart-crushing. But Ms. Szeliga is truly a leonine warrior on this issue.

Is your state, city or county already a ‘Sanctuary’ for illegal aliens?

See the interactive map at the Center for Immigration Studies which as of February 5th lists the following states along with more than a hundred (I didn’t count them) local jurisdictions that have already declared themselves welcoming to those who are hiding from law enforcement.

California
Colorado
Connecticut
Illinois
Massachusetts
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
Oregon
Vermont

From time to time, I hear from readers looking to move and they ask me where would be a good location.  You might use this map, overlay it with a refugee resettlement map and see what you get.

LOL! Since I know where the refugees are going, I would look at the deep south, South Carolina or Wyoming as safe choices, at least for now!

Judge Who Ruled Against Trump in Case Involving Afghans and Iraqis Has a Complicated History

***Update*** The plot thickens as Imran Awan, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz’s IT guy is suing the Daily Caller.  Thanks to reader Ann for alerting me to the news.

I thought “complicated history” was a nice way of describing the Obama judge who recently ruled that Trump isn’t moving fast enough to admit MORE Afghan and Iraqi Special Immigrant Visa holders to your towns and cities.

We have already admitted over 80,000 but Judge Chutkan says MORE needed and faster!

I posted that story 4 days ago at RRW and the post went viral. I don’t know how or why, but it garnered nearly 10,000 hits at RRW since then.

Although I knew nothing about the judge, many of you did, and Judge Tanya Chutkan has a claim to fame.

She is the judge who presided over the case of the Pakistani brothers who had for years been doing IT work for influential Democrats on the Hill and were arrested on some funny business regarding mortgages.  However, many questioned, and still do question, whether they compromised the US in their role in Congress as information gatherers and keepers.

Here is what reader Deidra alerted me to regarding Judge Chutkan.

From a 2017 article at True Pundit:

‘Rigged’ Awan Judge Appointed By Obama After Giving Thousands in Campaign Cash; Her Husband Appointed a Judge by Obama Too

The federal judge in the Awan case has President Barack Obama’s back. His cohorts Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch are likely covered too. No worries in The Swamp.

The players: Judge Tanya Chutkan, Rep. Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, and Pakistani Imran Awan.

U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is presiding over the Imran Awan and Hina Alvi fraud case, was appointed to the federal bench by Obama after she kicked thousands in campaign donations to his presidential campaign when he was a U.S. Senator in Illinois, records confirm.

Obama also appointed Chutkan’s husband, Peter Krauthamer, a judge to the bench in the District of Columbia Superior Court in 2011.

Krauthamer’s mother, and Chutkan’s mother-in-law, also contributed campaign cash to Obama, records confirm.

And Chutkan’s former law firm, where she worked until her appointment to the federal bench in 2014, currently represents Huma Abedin, the wife of disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner. The firm also is stacked with Democratic lawyers who worked for Hillary Clinton, John Podesta, and Barack Obama’s White House, just to name a few D.C. insiders.

If Obama or his administration is implicated in the expanding Awan Congressional probe they likely have little to worry about.

These revelations damper rank-and-file FBI agents who are pressing to expand the case to encompass Awan’s two brothers and press an indictment for selling intelligence gleaned and possibly stolen from Congressional IT network the Awams were charged with safeguarding.

“It’s rigged from almost every angle,” a frustrated FBI insider said.

[….]

FBI agents fear [US Attorney] Phillips — now backed by the federal case judge Chutkan — has cleverly rigged the Awan case to protect Obama, Lynch, Holder and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz. This likely includes the dozens of Congressional Democrats the Awans served as IT specialists.

[….]

Chutkan, the federal judge on the Awan case, was born in Jamaica. She lived in Jamaica, the Bahamas, France and Spain before coming to the United States, federal law enforcement sources said.

One more reason we must work to keep Trump in office for four more years—to give him time to appoint new judges!

Tell Your Kids to Grow Up to Be Non-profit Execs!

Who knew taking care of the homeless could be so lucrative!

Longtime readers know that one of the reasons I keep doing what I do, writing blog posts like this as my charity work, is that I want taxpayers to understand that gobs of their hard-earned money (tax dollars!) is flowing to non-profit groups masquerading as charities.

The non-profit gets to pretend it is doing good work (sometimes under a cloak of religious zeal) and all the while those leading the fake charities are reaping rewards beyond your wildest imagination.

Refugee Resettlement Watch is loaded with information on this topic, but thanks to reader Brad for sending me this news from the New York Post about the NYC homelessness ‘industry.’

How NYC’s homeless ‘charities’ cash in — ruthlessly

It was a good hour into his State of the City speech Thursday before Mayor Bill de Blasio addressed homelessness — though he didn’t say much about it. “It’s what we have to do,” he averred. “We have to end homelessness as we know it.”

A little public relations pic! Mayor Bill de Blasio inspects accommodations with homelessness industry CEO Raul Russi. https://prospect.org/infrastructure/housing/business-of-homelessness-nyc-biggest-shelter-contractor/

You’d think this was de Blasio’s inaugural statement on the topic, as though he hasn’t been mayor for six years, presiding over record numbers of homeless people living in shelters, on the streets and in the subways. But de Blasio does in fact have a clear track record on homelessness; it’s just so dismal — so tainted by waste and scandal — that it’s no surprise he doesn’t want to dwell on it.

Spending has skyrocketed across the board since de Blasio took over City Hall, but no government expenditures have soared as fast as homeless services, which more than doubled since 2014, from $1 billion to $2.1 billion.

[….]

Turns out that an increasing amount of the city’s homeless budget goes to service providers — the groups that run shelters and intake centers, conduct outreach and offer specialized treatment to people on the street. Yet given the enormous demand for shelter, numerous regulations on services and difficulties dealing with the city, it’s hard to find top-quality, scrupulously ethical providers.

At the same time, with more than a billion dollars a year flowing to this sector, the city can’t seem to ensure that standards are met, while well-positioned insiders — call them nonprofiteers — soak up public money.

Indeed, the system has been working great, if you are on the receiving end of the money stream. If you are a homeless or needy person, not so much.

After some horror stories about Children’s Community Services, opinion writer Seth Barron continued:

CCS isn’t the only bad actor in the city’s social-service industrial complex. Bronx-based powerhouse Acacia Networks — which has taken in close to a billion dollars in city funding since 2010 — garnered attention after a grisly murder in one of its Upper West Side shelters.

Scandal rocked Maria del Carmen Arroyo’s term in elected office. Here with Michael Bloomberg (right) who promotes the idea of immigrants adding to the US economy. I guess he means people like Ms. Arroyo!

This came on the heels of a revelation that Acacia executives had unreported ties to the security firm it hired to monitor its facilities and ensure the safety of the residents; insiders may also have proprietary ties to other vendors, too. Acacia “cluster sites,” which also house homeless families, have hundreds of outstanding violations.

Yet the organization is politically connected — former Bronx Council Member Maria del Carmen Arroyo left her elected post for a cool quarter-million salary as an Acacia VP, though that’s peanuts compared to the $800,000 stipend pulled down by CEO Raul Russi.

Only in America!

Where Was Amy Klobuchar That Day?

In March of 2009 I went Washington for a Senate Homeland Security hearing.

The subject was Somali Islamic radicalization in Minnesota.

The committee was hearing from Robert Mueller’s FBI and the National Counterterrorism Center, and from two men, Minnesota Somalis who feared for the future of young Somalis being lured back to Africa by al-Shabaab which ultimately joined with al Qaeda to become a powerful terror network.

Birds of a feather! Presidential candidate Senator Amy Klobuchar, Senator Tammy Baldwin, and Rep. Ilhan Omar having a laugh.

Shame on our terrorism ‘experts.’

They downplayed the disappearance of at least twenty young Somali youths even as Osman Ahmed and Abdirahman Mukhtar had traveled to Washington (putting themselves in danger at home) to try to alert the committee and America to the radicalization going on in mosques in the state Senator Amy Klobuchar represents.

Normally when constituents testify on the Hill a Member of Congress or Senator from the state the constituents are from at least stops in at the hearing.

Senator Amy Klobuchar never showed her face that day.  Why?

A year ago this month I told readers here at ‘Frauds and Crooks’ about the Senator’s absence.

LOL! The Fox story came ten years after that hearing and twelve years after the Somali youths began leaving the US to get training as jihadists!

Fox News Attempts to Explain why Minneapolis Somalis became Jihadists

Okay, okay, I’m at least thankful that a national cable news outlet is finally getting around to the US Somali refugee radicalization problem that has been going on for at least twelve years, but I want to scream about how long it takes for the national media to catch up with serious issues like this one.

And, I guess we should be thankful that Ilhan Omar was elected to Congress, because her words and actions have become a focal point (a news hook) for stories like this one.

I honestly think she does us a great service by being in Congress—let her keep talking!

I can’t and won’t write a book here, but everyone should take time to read the Fox story, and to read about my trip to Washington in 2009 when I attended a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing on the radicalization of Minnesota Somalis.

You will see that the FBI brushed off the idea of any Islamic connection and spokesmen testifying were fixated on their main point—the poor disenfranchised refugee “youths” were going back to defend Somalia from Ethiopian aggression (Move along, nothing to see about a broader reason for jihad recruitment).

Who headed the FBI in 2009?  Robert Mueller.

And, by the way, Senator Amy Klobuchar never set foot into that hearing room that day even though she had constituents testifying!

Not a surprise that Klobuchar wants nothing to do with any suggestion that her Somali voters could be terrorists or have a radical agenda.

Watch her pander!

Do we really want Amy anywhere near the White House?

Detroit Area ‘New American’ Doctors Guilty in $150 Million Rip-off of Medicare Program

Is the word out all over the world for foreign docs to head to the Detroit area and set up scams to rip-off American taxpayers? It seems that way considering the number of cases of fraud I’ve reported from Michigan.

See this post about Opiod pushing docs in Michigan because they aren’t just ripping us off financially, but hurting Americans as well.

Here is the latest from ClickonDetroit.com:

Metro Detroit physicians found guilty of defrauding Medicare, prescribing unnecessary opioids

Four Metro Detroit physicians were found guilty of health care fraud for their roles in a scheme to administer unnecessary back injections to patients in exchange for prescriptions of medically unnecessary opioids.

The doctors all worked for Tri-County Group owned by co-conspirator Mashiyat Rashid. https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/health-care-ceo-pleads-guilty-150-million-health-care-fraud-scheme-involving-harmful

Officials said patients were required to get the injections in order to get the prescriptions. Some of the opioids were resold by drug dealers.

Spilios Pappas, 62, of Lucas County, Ohio, Joseph Betro, 59, of Oakland County, Michigan, Tariq Omar, 62, of Oakland County, Michigan, and Mohammed Zahoor, 53, of Oakland County, Michigan, were each found guilty of one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and wire fraud, and one count of health care fraud.

“These physicians subjected patients to medically unnecessary injections to reap millions in fraudulent billings. Worse still, they incentivized those treatments by offering opioid prescriptions in sky-high dosages meant for the terminally ill,” said Assistant Attorney General Brian A. Benczkowski of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. “Today’s verdict shows that the Department will root out physicians who let dollar signs rather than medical need drive their treatment of patients.”

Evidence at trial showed that from 2008 to 2016 Pappas, Betro, Omar and Zahoor worked at numerous medical clinics in Michigan and Ohio, which were operated under the name of the Tri-County Group (Tri-County) and owned by co-conspirator Mashiyat Rashid.

While working at Tri-County they engaged in a scheme to defraud Medicare of over $150 million by billing for medically unnecessary facet joint injections, unnecessary urinary drug screens, home health and more.

Officials said they offered prescriptions of oxycodone 30 mg to patients who were in pain, drug dealers, or opioid addicts. Those patients were forced to submit to unnecessary facet injections for the prescription.

The four defendants were all ranked in the top 25 doctors for dollars paid by Medicare for facet joint injections, even though they only worked a few hours a week. The defendants practice was described during trial as an assembly line, where the four defendants earned anywhere from $1,100 to $3,500 an hour for performing the injections.

Seniors:  If you are seeing a doctor, especially for pain medications and you see something suspicious, report it to Medicare.gov.  Check your Medicare statements carefully.  One friend who was receiving pain meds told me that her doctor had billed Medicare for a much larger amount than she was prescribed.  Maybe by mistake? But, best to report anything suspicious!
