Ohio: Westlake “Man” Indicted in Multi-million Food Stamp Scam Involving Illegal Slaughterhouse

The Westlake “man” (men) who is alleged to have ripped off US taxpayers for $2.7 million is a ‘new American’ from somewhere in the Middle East.

I hate to resort to photos like this one, but unfortunately it is rare to see a photo of the ‘new American’ fraudsters!

Of course none of the stories I’ve found mention the nationality (or immigration status) of the man and his son indicted by the US Justice Department yesterday in what may be the most egregious case of fraud I’ve seen in ten years of following these stories!

Rather than summarize the stunning news, here is the first half of the press release from US Attorneys Office of the Northern District of Ohio.  (Emphasis is mine)

A Westlake man with a history of food stamp fraud was indicted on charges that he continued to illegally accept food stamps at seven Cleveland-area gas stations, laundered the profits, illegally had firearms, operated an unregulated slaughterhouse and polluted a stream by dumping animal blood and other fluids into it.

Amin M. Salem, 59, and Mohamed Salem, 32, were both indicted on one count each of conspiracy to launder money and one count of engaging in real estate transactions using laundered funds.

Papa Salem had previous convictions for food stamp fraud!

Amin Salem is additionally charged with one count of making unpermitted discharges into a waterway, one count of distribution of adulterated, misbranded or uninspected meat and one count of being a felon in possession of firearms. That charge stems from Amin Salem having an AR-15 rifle and a Savage 12-gauge shotgun, despite previous convictions for conspiracy to defraud the United States, food stamp fraud, mail fraud, and money laundering.

Mohamed Salem, also of Westlake and Amin’s son, is also charged with trafficking in counterfeit goods for his sale of counterfeit clothing and apparel.

Zahran al-Qadan, 55, of Cleveland, was indicted on one count of conspiracy to launder money.

Prosecutors are seeking to forfeit properties at 43588 Stang Road and 7250 West Ridge Road in Elyria owned by the Salems.

According to the six-count indictment:

Amin Salem secretly owned several area gas stations: Henry’s Marathon at 3106 Fulton Road; Gas Way at 10606 Bellaire Road; Turney Sunoco at 6009 Turney Road in Garfield Heights; Harvard Gas USA at 7020 Harvard Ave.; Bellaire Gas USA at 3934 West 117th Street; Rapid Stop at 1712 East 55th Street and Memphis Shell at 7210 Memphis Ave.

Mohamed Salem managed the gas station’s finances of behalf of his father. The gas stations had terminals to accept and process Electronic Benefits Transaction (EBT) cards as part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as food stamps.

Papa Salem was not permitted to own stores due to previous convictions, so Mohamed was running them!

The gas stations and the EBT terminals inside were in the names of Mohamed Salem or another person, since Amin Salem was prohibited from owning stores that processed EBT transactions because of previous convictions for food stamp fraud and related crimes.

The gas station terminals were used by the Salems to process more than $2.7 million in fraudulent SNAP transactions between 2010 and 2016.

The words halal slaughter are absent, but you know what this was all about!

Blood and bodily fluids went in to Ohio’s Black River

Amin Salem slaughtered lambs and goats at his property on Stang Road in 2015 and 2016. He sold the meat, which was not inspected by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

He also caused, without a permit, the discharge of blood and other bodily fluids from the slaughtered animals into Engle Ditch, which flows into the Black River and eventually Lake Erie.

There is actually much more in the US Attorney’s press release (click here).

One of yours Joe?

My first thought was to wonder where the ‘Welcoming Cleveland’ propagandists are about this ‘new American’ entrepreneur in their midst! (Westlake is a suburb of Cleveland).

Here is what Global Cleveland wants you to know:

“Immigrants strengthen our community in so many ways, and one of them is by opening businesses,” said Joe Cimperman, president of Global Cleveland, in a written statement. “These businesses do more than create jobs. They add vitality to our neighborhoods and become part of the cultural tapestry that makes Cleveland so special. They reflect our deepest DNA and remind us of the best of ourselves.”

question markWhat can you do?  If you live in the Cleveland area send the DOJ press release to Global Cleveland and to everyone you know! If you live elsewhere, this story must get out to social media because the national big media never reports these stories!!!

Remittances: The “R” Word No One Talks About

The next time you see a gushing news story where you live about how “new Americans” are causing your city’s economy to blossom, check the study and see if the “Welcoming” gang has factored in the amount of money LEAVING your community!

trump mexico build the wall
A small fee on Remittances will do it Donald!

Remittances are the dollars, US dollars, leaving the US economy and are the primary reason countries like Mexico, El Salvador, India, countries in Africa (e.g. Somalia!) and so forth want their migrants to get to the US where they can find employment and welfare (and fraud/crime) in order to send money back ‘home.’

I’ll bet you will never find any figure in any glowing economic study written by the likes of  Welcoming America and the New American Economy globalists that shows how much money is leaving your city or state for a foreign country.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform and other immigration restriction groups see those huge outflows as a source of funding for border security and the wall.

From FAIR’s Bob Dane,

Legal and illegal migrants sent $53.4 billion in remittances back to Mexico and Central America in 2018. That’s $53.4 billion – with a “B” – and more than double the projected cost of building a border barrier.

Remittances to Mexico alone reached $33.7 billion in 2018, up 21 percent from roughly $27.8 billion in 2016, the World Bank reported.

Remittances to Central America are spiking with a growing inflow of asylum seekers benefiting from U.S. catch-and-release laws. Wire transfers to Central America hit $19.7 billion last year, up from $15.8 billion in 2016. The southbound windfall includes payments to human-trafficking cartels.

With an estimated 83 percent of Mexicans who enter the U.S. illegally sending money home, a surcharge on remittances is one sure way for President Trump to make good on his promise to make Mexico pay for the wall.

For a few cents on the dollar it wouldn’t take long for Mexico to pay for the wall! Dane continues,

At the current (and rising) rate of remittances, a nominal 2 percent surcharge on Mexico-bound funds would raise $674 million for a border wall in the first year. Slap a fee on all foreign remittances — $150 billion last year — and the 2,000-mile barrier is fully paid off within eight years.

See the World Bank study. There is big money for global banks in this migration business, while those billions leaving the US are no longer available for circulation in your local economy!

Looking for something to do?

question markThe next time you see any mention in local news about how your city is booming because of “new Americans,” call the reporter, ask him/her for the study the news is based upon and look to see if any mention is made of money leaving your city or state for a third world country.  If it’s not there, write a letter to the editor to tell the public that the study is bogus.
And, hey, I will bet there is no mention of costs for the criminal justice system in the glowing economic report either.  There might not even be the costs for your local school system!

Is Obama’s Task Force on New Americans still a working plan?

A reader just reminded me of Obama’s propaganda initiative to plant the idea that refugees and immigrants bring the joys of diversity and economic good times to cities welcoming migrants of all stripes.

You might want to dismiss this as old news and not worth remembering, but if you recall at the time, Obama’s Task Force on New Americans was a government-wide plan that they wanted to place into the DNA of federal, state, and local governments presumably by setting policies, electing officials and planting employees who would carry out the agenda long after Obama was gone from the White House.

Here they are bragging about their successes in 2015:

On November 21, 2014, the President established the White House Task Force on New Americans—a government-wide effort tasked with better integrating immigrants and refugees into American communities. Want to get more details about the Task Force’s recommendations? Read the strategic action plan here.

In 2015, the Task Force has been busy implementing recommended actions and highlighting local models of success.

(Don’t miss the action plan! You might want to download it before it disappears!)

Continue here and you will see that they had (have!) some key initiatives. One was to tell the stories (via their media friends) of successful refugees and immigrants—they love stories—to bring the general public to their point of view that all immigration is a net positive for America.

Another was (is!) to spearhead a citizenship drive to get as many immigrants voting as they possibly could (can!). All, of course, under the rubric that this was all about “integration.”

As was intended, these initiatives continue to be promoted and it is much of the reason I wanted to write this blog as my small attempt to balance the news you read—-heck we can tell stories too!

Problem is that we don’t do it often enough—tell the not-so-sweet stories about what diversity often brings to America!

I’m posting this information from the ‘Welcoming Communities’ plan below for your future reference (and in case it is scrubbed!).

Don’t ask me why this second list leaves out a few locations?  Maybe they quit after the map was produced!
Let me be clear! These initiatives did not go away when Obama did!

If you live in any of those “welcoming” locations, are you keeping an eye on your elected officials and speaking up?question mark

Is Your Community One of 13 Recognized for its Welcome to New Americans?

When I wrote my post welcoming readers to my new blog, I told you I was writing to attempt to balance the news because you will be bombarded by stories over the next two years about how immigrants (New Americans is the preferred word) financially and culturally benefit your community.

Sure they may bring some benefits but also some problems and it is the problems that Open Borders pushers like the New American Economy (NAE) and Welcoming America NEVER mention.

The chief propagandists behind the New American Economy.  Does anyone think they have the best interests of average Americans at heart? Or is it all about cheap labor?

Someone has to do it—tell the rest of the story—and I’m hoping Frauds and Crooks will be a one-stop shop for cataloging stories about frauds and crimes that cost you and me both financially and from a security standpoint so that you can best decide where you stand on the issue of our time—migration.

We are in a tough battle because the Open Borders Left has joined with global giants to push more and more immigration down our throats.

I saw a story this morning from Bowling Green, KY, a huge refugee resettlement site that I wrote about often at Refugee Resettlement Watch.

It’s about how the Chamber of Commerce and local government are working with NAE and their Gateways for Growth initiative to improve employment prospects for the “New Americans” living there.

You can read the story yourself, here.

Bowling Green is one of thirteen localities which have been awarded grants for 2019 to boost the immigrant population—to get them working and voting.

From NAE’s website:

Thirteen Communities Across the United States Make a Commitment to Welcome New Americans

Launched in December 2015, the Gateways for Growth Challenge is a competitive opportunity for local communities to receive direct technical assistance from New American Economy and Welcoming America to develop multi-sector plans for welcoming and integrating immigrants.

Here are the locations awarded grants for 2019:

Bowling Green, Kentucky
Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Charlotte, North Carolina
Flint, Michigan
Grand Rapids, Michigan
Lexington, Kentucky
Lowell, Massachusetts
Memphis, Tennessee
Northern Kentucky
Roanoke, Virginia
San Antonio, Texas
Toledo-Lucas County, Ohio
Wayne County, Michigan

Learn more here.

You know the grants themselves are really not that great, but they buy media because every location on this list will likely generate warm and fuzzy local media coverage just like the story at the Bowling Green Daily News.

Has Bowling Green already forgotten that it is the location where two Iraqi refugee terrorists were arrested only a few years ago?  Has that news been swept under the rug? Sure looks like it.

question markAre you seeing news in a local paper or on local TV about one of the other twelve locations, if so, send me a link!

Update:  Thanks to Robin here is the puff-piece from Lexington, KY local news.
