Unwanted emails or text messages are usually just a bother. But for one local woman traveling at San Diego’s International Airport, a series of mysterious text messages made her fear for her safety and caused her lasting emotional distress.

Ashley Barno was waiting to board her flight last April at the San Diego International Airport.

Looking at her phone, she saw the first of many text messages from an unknown sender.

“Hey, Ashley! How are you?” read the first text. “I’m good, thank you!” Ashley politely replied. “Sorry,” she added, “I’m not sure who this is.”

Barno didn’t recognize the phone number on those texts and the messages that followed made her increasingly uncomfortable. “BTW I must tell you that you are gorgeous,” wrote the unknown admirer.

“The whole time I kept asking him, ‘Who are you? How do you know who I am? How’d you get my info?’,” Barno told NBC 7 in an exclusive interview.

Then, another unwelcomed text: “You are looking very gorgeous in that gray top today.” That message prompted Barno to look for a familiar face in the American Airlines boarding area in Terminal 2. That’s when the sender identified himself as “Ahmad” and told Barno he worked for the airline.

The unwanted messages continued after Barno boarded her flight to Chicago.

Then, a text that really unnerved her. “I am on board now. Are you going to Chicago too??”

At the least, she says everyone should only use luggage tags that have a flap that covers their personal information.

And, that is the big take away?  Hide your tag?  It is on you to protect yourself from creeps?  How about the airline doing a better job hiring trustworthy employees who aren’t hanging onto cultural norms from whatever country “Ahmad” is from.

I wonder do major airlines have training programs for ‘new American’ employees to teach them how to behave on the job?

Diversity is beautiful alert!

So much for giving a better life to those who supposedly helped our military in one of our foreign entanglements—this time the Hmong from the Vietnam era.

As I said yesterday at RRW, we are bringing in Afghans and Iraqis by the tens of thousands as a reward for doing something for our military (or even for non-profit groups) with no guarantee that they will benefit America.

These gangs of Hmong in California are a case in point.

(I mentioned Wisconsin Hmong here in October—a drug bust!)

7 charged in Central California party shooting that killed 4

FRESNO — Seven gang members were charged Thursday in state and federal court in the shooting deaths of four men at a backyard party in California, prosecutors said.

The victims were killed Nov. 17 when gunmen entered the yard of a Fresno home through an unlocked gate and used semiautomatic weapons to open fire on people watching a Sunday night football game. Four men were killed and six other people were wounded.

Police said the suspects all acknowledge being members of the Mongolian Boys Society and that the shooting was intended as retaliation for the death of one of their gang members.

However, investigators do not believe any of the victims were members of a rival gang and say they were mistakenly targeted.  [Another news report says one of those targeted belonged to the Asian Crips gang.—ed]

They could face life in prison if convicted of the charges. District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp said prosecutors were considering whether to pursue the death penalty.

All the victims were of Hmong descent and the shooting rattled the central California city, home of the second-largest Hmong community in the U.S.

Hmong, an ethnic minority group from East and Southeast Asia, fought on the side of the U.S. in the Vietnam War. After the war, the U.S. moved them to places in Minnesota, California and Wisconsin.

California, Hmong settled in Fresno and the Central Valley, where sponsors hoped they could find work given their agricultural background.

Another bunch of New Americans bringing us gangs and violence, as well as a big bill for the cost of trials and possible lifelong incarceration.

Hey, the next time you see one of those gushing economic studies put out by the likes of Bloomberg’s New American Economy or Welcoming America, see if they have factored in the cost to the criminal justice system!

End note: As I said here a few days ago, the Left loves its warm and fuzzy emotional stories about how ‘new Americans’ bring us the joys of diversity while benefiting our economy, but my job is to balance their fluff with ‘stories’ that demonstrate another side of their ‘nation of immigrants’ meme.

Mother of Islamic Terrorist Wants her Son’s Life Insurance—Whaaaa!

That would be the mother of the San Bernardino Christmas party slaughterer.

She says she is entitled to the payola since she didn’t know what her son had planned (or so she says).  Tell that to the 14 families who lost their loved ones forever!

Mother of San Bernardino terrorist trying to get money from Minnesota Life Insurance

Rafia Farook, the mother of San Bernardino terrorist Syed Farook, is trying to cash in on her son’s $280,000 life insurance policy. Here’s the Daily Mail:

“Rafia is battling the Justice Department over Farook’s $280,000 life insurance policy of which she was the primary beneficiary. Insurers Minnesota Life Insurance paid out shortly after the attack but the funds were held by court after the Justice Department attempted to have the cash seized as proceeds of crime.”

Four years ago Rafia Farook’s son Syed, and her son’s wife Tashfeen Malik, shot up a Christmas party at the San Bernardino Department of Public Health, where Syed was an employee. As a result of the attack, 14 were killed and another 22 injured. Both Malik and Syed Farook were killed by police while they fled the scene.

It is unclear why Minnesota Life Insurance paid out money because of the death.*** However, it is possible that the money was paid out to reduce legal exposure for Minnesota Life Insurance, especially since the Justice Department would surely seize the money once it was paid. Minnesota Life Insurance is a subsidiary of Securian Financial, which is headquartered in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The Daily Mail continues: “Rafia is continuing to fight attempts by the federal government to retain the payout. She says that because she did not know her son was going to commit an act of terror, there is no reason for the money not to be paid.”

But Rafia Farook has other problems. Her other son Syed Raheel and his Russian wife are in trouble for immigration fraud.

That’s because Syed Raheel tried to get his wife’s sister into the country via a sham-marriage with Enrique Marquez Jr., who is currently serving 25 years in federal prison after admitting to purchasing guns that were used in the Farook-Malik terror attack.

*** Someone should see who runs the Minnesota Life Insurance Company!  Do you follow my meaning!

California: Ringleaders in Massive International Fencing Ring were Afghan Special Refugees

You know those “brave boys” who worked for the US military in Afghanistan I’ve been telling you about; the ones who supposedly would have been killed if we left them in their home country; the ones we have been admitting as refugees to the US by the thousands—56,000 so far!  See here.

I’ll bet if you live in any state other than California, this is news to you.  Gotta hand it to local NBC for their great reporting and the Freemont, CA police for their undercover work!

And, many thanks to reader Michael who spotted the information (buried several paragraphs into the story) that those busted ringleaders include three who were welcomed to America by the US military!  So much for robust screening!

Upon their arrival you (your tax dollars) set them up with apartments, medical care and an assortment of social services.

I think we need to find out who in the military vouched for three of the Afghan creeps!

From NBC Bay Area earlier this month:

From an undercover car in a nondescript Hayward strip mall, detectives snapped photos as Isaiah Langley and D’anthony Larks walk into a cellphone store called Torspin Wireless with a bag police believed was stuffed with brand new iPhones.

A few minutes later, photos and video shot by detectives captured the men strolling casually out of the shop towards a black Audi SUV. The bag appeared empty, and they were openly carrying large bricks of cash. It was June 7, three days before Langley would sign a professional football contract with the Oakland Raiders.

Investigators from at least eight different Northern California law enforcement agencies were zeroing in on a crew police say were tied to more than 60 strong-arm robberies and grand thefts – from the Bay Area to Sacramento – targeting delivery drivers carrying shipments of brand new cellphones. Police tracked the crew for three more months, arresting Langley, Larks, and 10 others in August.

But as the Oakland Police Department and Alameda County District Attorney’s Office led the investigation into the suspected robbery crew, detectives from the Fremont Police Department took an interest in Torspin Wireless, the Hayward store police believed was just a front for a major fencing operation trafficking in stolen electronics.

Detectives began a months-long surveillance operation on the shop – watching time-after-time as customers walked into Torspin carrying boxes or bags and walking out with cash. Detectives would come to believe they’d found the Bay Area’s largest fencing operation for stolen electronics – and the starting point of an international pipeline of stolen phones spanning at least four continents.

Zemlok [ Fremont Police Detective Rick Zemlok] said the man calling the shots for the operation was one of the store’s three owners, Muhibullah Nuristani. The store’s other owners – Mohammad Mustafa and Abdul Janah – also took part in the suspected fencing ring, as well as Mujibullah Nuristani, a relative of Muhibullah, according to Zemlok. All but Mustafa had been granted citizenship in the United States after serving as translators for the U.S. Army during the war in Afghanistan, according to police and attorneys for the men.

all over the globe, in Mexico, China, Russia, Vietnam, Singapore, Dubai, and Australia, among other countries.

Feds Bust Huge ($258 million!) California Medicare/Medicaid Fraud Networks

Perhaps even worse than the millions of taxpayer dollars lost to these alleged cheats—medical doctors and other medical professionals—is the fact that they diagnosed people with major illnesses that the patients didn’t have!

Here is the Justice Department’s press statement on the bust last week.

All I could think of as I read the long statement from the DOJ was, just imagine what a run on the treasury there will be if the Dems get Medicare for all!

Here we see that one of the alleged crooked doctors (Dr. Negash Shetty) has a long record of defrauding us.  Of course I couldn’t find a picture or any information on his immigration status, but his name is a common Indian name.

LOL! I did find that in 1996 he hired “celebrity lawyer and law professor Alan M. Dershowitz” to get him out of one of his run-ins with the law.

H.B. doctor indicted in $135-million Medicare fraud scheme

A Huntington Beach doctor with a history of legal and disciplinary problems is one of seven healthcare professionals accused of participating in a Medicare fraud scheme that netted about $135 million through fraudulent insurance claims, according to federal prosecutors.

Nagesh Shetty, 74, was indicted Wednesday in connection with the scheme, which involved “medically unnecessary” cardiac treatments and testing through an Inglewood healthcare provider, Global Cardio Care, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.

Shetty was first licensed by the California Medical Board in 1979 and has operated practices in Costa Mesa, West Covina and the West Hills neighborhood of Los Angeles, according to documents and online records.

In 1994, Shetty was indicted in federal court on 28 counts of mail fraud on allegations of defrauding a Minnesota-based insurance company through “nonexistent, medically unnecessary or excessive medical treatment.” That case was later transferred to a California district court and charges were eventually dropped, court records show.

In 1996, Shetty was sentenced to 21 months in federal prison and fined $40,000 for filing false income tax returns and failing to report more than $400,000 in income over a three-year period in the 1980s, court documents show. At the time of the crimes, Shetty was owner and attending physician of Harbor Newport Medical Clinic in Costa Mesa.

While in prison, Shetty was indicted in 1998 on federal charges alleging that he defrauded military and private health insurance programs.

More charges, then this!

The California Medical Board revoked Shetty’s license in 2000, according to board records. His license to practice medicine also was revoked in New York in 1999 and Washington state in 2001, records show.

In 2005, Shetty petitioned the California board to reinstate his medical certificate. At the time, Shetty was bagging groceries and stocking shelves at a store and said his inability to practice his profession had caused emotional and financial strain for his wife and four children.

He was granted a probationary license, according to a decision by an administrative law judge, with the conditions that he complete an ethics course and a clinical training program, undergo monitoring and be barred from practicing solo, supervising physician assistants and handling any billing matters.

In 2009, Shetty completed his probation and the board reinstated his license.

They reinstated his medical license and he went right back to scamming us!
