Arab Immigrants Angry, Say they Will be Undercounted in 2020 Census

“You’re making us invisible.”

(US Rep. Rashida Tlaib)

I haven’t been paying any attention to the Census other than noting that we have received at least three mailings telling us to get it done.

Here we learn that Arab-speaking immigrants to the Detroit area are working hard to be sure they are not undercounted so they can get their government goodies.  But, government goodies aren’t given out to specific ethnic groups anyway.

I suspect the real reason is that they want to be sure that mostly Muslims from the Middle East and North Africa are designated separately as a way to show their potential political power.

From the AP at Fox 13:

Hard-to-count Arab Americans urged to prioritize census

A Detroit area billboard

DEARBORN, Mich. — (AP) — At a Michigan gas station, the message is obvious — at least to Arabic speakers: Be counted in the 2020 census.

“Provide your community with more/additional opportunities,” the ad on the pump handle reads in Arabic. In the fine print, next to “United States Census 2020,” it adds: “To shape your future with your own hands, start here.”

As state officials and nonprofit groups target hard-to-count groups like immigrants, people of color and those in poverty, many Arab Americans say the undercount is even more pronounced for them.

That means one of the largest and most concentrated Arab populations outside the Middle East — those in the Detroit area — could be missing out on federal funding for education, health care, crime prevention and other programs that the census determines how to divvy up.

That also includes money to help states address the fallout from the coronavirus.

“We are trying to encourage people not just to fill it out because of all the reasons we had given before, where there’s education and health care and all of that, but also because it is essential for the federal government to know who is in Michigan at this point more than ever before,” said Rima Meroueh, director of policy and advocacy with Dearborn-based ACCESS, one of the largest Arab American advocacy nonprofits in the country.

The Arab American community checks many boxes that census and nonprofit officials say are hallmarks of the hardest-to-count communities: large numbers of young children, non-English speakers, recent immigrants and those who often live in multifamily or rental housing.

But groups face a hurdle after the Trump administration decided not to include a category that counts people from the Middle East or North Africa as their own group. The Census Bureau recommended the so-called MENA box in 2017 after years of research and decades of advocacy.

The decision to scrap the choice angers many Arab Americans, who say it hinders representation and needed funding. Democratic U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib, an Arab American representing part of Detroit and several suburbs, expressed her displeasure while questioning Census Bureau director Steven Dillingham on Capitol Hill in February.

“The community did it right — they went through the process,” she said. “You’re making us invisible.”

More here.

Does it make any sense to you? Is the area around Detroit going to get any less stuff if Arab-speaking people of the Middle East and North Africa don’t get a separate category?  Or is it more about flexing some Arab-power muscle?

Just so you know here (below) is the region they are talking about, the region they call MENA—the area (still expanding) colonized by the followers of Mohammed.

Do we refer to Muslims in Africa as colonizers or is that dirty word only reserved for western countries that colonized Africa through the centuries?  Just wondering.  Heck we could say that Arabs are colonizing Michigan and Somalis are colonizing Minnesota!

A little fact you might not know: The number one language of refugees admitted to the US for at least the last twelve years is Arabic.

Michigan: Iraqis Scheduled to be Deported Remove their Monitoring Devices in Acts of Protest

Large numbers of Iraqis are being deported back to Iraq because they have broken US laws somewhere along the line, but of course they don’t want to go, so some (the exact number is not being reported) have removed their “tethers.”  (Tethers are described here. )
They have had their court hearing and have been ordered deported.
In a story clearly sympathetic to the Iraqi refugees, the Detroit News tells us what is happening to those awaiting deportation.  The ACLU claims they are Christians who will be persecuted if returned to the Muslim country.
I think there is likely much more to their ‘stories’ than we are being told, and Christians or not, if they abused our welcome and broke our laws, we really don’t need them here.

Fearing deportation, Iraqi refugees cut tethers

Detroit — A growing number of Iraqi refugees are attempting to “save their own lives” by cutting off their tethers to evade immigration authorities’ deportation attempts before their court cases are heard, families and lawyers say.
At least seven Iraqi nationals have removed their tethers in Michigan in the last month, according to a lawyer representing 23 refugees.

Ali_Al-Sadoon
This sympathetic Detroit News story leaves a lot out about the life and times of Al-Sadoon.  Learn more about him at the Center for Immigration Studies.  ” How could he be so stupid as not to think there would be repercussions for a refugee, a guest in this country, who has chosen to engage in criminal recidivism to the degree that he has?”  https://cis.org/Cadman/Detroit-Case-Illustrates-When-ICE-May-Forcibly-Enter-Residence-Highlights-Limitations-ATD

One of them, Ali Al-Sadoon, ditched his tether in July in Detroit on the day he was supposed to be deported.
The 33-year-old refugee from Redford Township now faces criminal charges for removing the ankle GPS tracker in addition to removal orders for breaking and entering, for which he was sentenced in 2013.
But his case is expected to head to a trial he might not have otherwise received.
“The only reason Ali cut his tether was because he was scared …” said his wife, Belqis Florido. “They sentenced him to death.”
Last week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials also arrested Wisam Hamana, 39, of Hazel Park and Baha Al-Said, 35, of Ann Arbor after both cut their tethers. Another Iraqi national, Oliver Awshana, 31, was deported from Calhoun County Correctional facility and made such a scene while transferring flights in Chicago that the pilot refused to fly him, his lawyers said.
The ACLU of Michigan has argued in federal court, where the detainees’ fates have played out for the past two years since immigration raids in June 2017, against repatriation to Iraq because, it says, if the men are sent back, they face torture or death because of their Christian faith, for having served in the U.S. military or for seeking U.S. asylum.

Be sure to note that those being deported have not become US citizens. If they came legally as refugees, then why didn’t they become citizens?

Shanta Driver
Read about their attorney Shanta Driver here:  https://everipedia.org/wiki/lang_en/shanta-driver

Shanta Driver, an attorney representing 23 Iraqi nationals, said the refugees cut their tethers because they “get to a point of desperation.”
[….]
The men are being deported for committing crimes that the government believes violate U.S. immigration laws.  [What does she mean “believes.”  These men had their day in court.—-ed]
They are more vulnerable to deportation after being released from detention because their immigration cases were denied and they are seeking emergency stays so they can appeal their cases. ICE, meanwhile, is expediting deportations before that can happen, Driver said.
ICE officials said cutting off the tethers has forced the agency to detain the men again and file federal charges for the act.

A bill introduced in Congress seeks to slow the process of deportation for Iraqi nationals who have committed crimes.  The bill sponsors are here. No surprise that Reps. Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib are among its co-sponsors.  Worried about the Christians are they?

“The State Department has evacuated all non-essential American personnel from Iraq because it is so dangerous, yet the administration is simultaneously trying to deport longstanding members of our community to Iraq, even though they face persecution, torture and death,” ACLU attorney Miriam Aukerman said. “… A fair process takes time, which is why it is so critical that Congress pass the bipartisan bill to pause Iraqi deportations. Many Iraqis have won their immigration cases, but they need time to do so.”
A bipartisan group of lawmakers hopes to help their cases with a bill that would grant Iraqi nationals relief from detainment and deportation while they await individual hearings before immigration judges. The bill would exclude those who pose a threat to national security. Democratic U.S. Rep. Andy Levin of Bloomfield Township and Republican Rep. John Moolenaar of Midland are spearheading the bill backed by 30 lawmakers across the country.
Michigan’s 9th District, represented by Levin, has the largest Iraqi-born community of any congressional district in the country, according to census data. Levin said they sent letters to Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and are working with the executive branch requesting intervention.

Georgia Republicans Learned about the Red-Green Axis Recently and You Should Too!

Editor: One of the great things about writing a blog of your own is that you can post things that you decide are vitally important for your readers to hear!  Author Leo Hohmann gave the following speech to a Republican audience in Georgia over this last weekend and received a standing ovation.  I know you have piles of things to read, but you must read the speech and then decide if you are in, or out, of the war to save America!

Knowing your enemy: The ‘Red-Green Axis of evil’ shows its face in Washington

How many of you have been watching the news in recent weeks and wondering, “is this still America? What is going on?”
How many Americans must be wondering, where did this Ilhan Omar, covered in the Islamic headscarf, come from and how in the world did she end up in Congress? We’re told she’s from Minnesota but she seems obsessed with demonizing Israel and speaks sympathetically of ISIS fighters.

Who is this other new Congresswoman with the foul mouth, Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, who bragged to the world that she would take drastic action against President Trump. She told her young son she would “impeach the Mother F’er?”
Who does this Linda Sarsour, also adorned in the headscarf, think she is, referring to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi as some sort of white supremacist.
Pelosi is “a typical white feminist doing the work of powerful white men,” Sarsour posted on Facebook. Did Pelosi deserve such a harsh rebuke for simply considering disciplinary action against the brazen anti-Semite Ilhan Omar?
Two years ago, I wrote a book. It’s called ‘Stealth Invasion, Muslim Conquest through Immigration and Resettlement Jihad.’
I saw these people coming. Let me tell you how I knew that the fox was already inside the hen house.

I’m stopping here, but please go to LeoHohmann.com and read the entire speech.  It won’t take you long, just do it!

By the way, did you know that Linda Sarsour went to Georgia to campaign for Stacy Abrams for governor?  I didn’t.  There is much, much, more you might not have known!

Petition Seeks to Impeach Michigan Rep. Rashida Tlaib

I suspect that most of you are news junkies who have seen this story from last Monday at Big League Politics (if you aren’t already following Big League you should!), but am posting it just in case.  (hat tip: Joanne)

Rashida Tlaib Haunted By Fake Residence Scandal As Nearly 300k Sign Petition To ‘IMPEACH’ Her

Democrat Michigan congresswoman Rashida Tlaib is haunted by a fake-residence scandal as the petition to impeach her closes in on 300,000 signatures.
Congressman Jon Bumstead of Michigan confirmed to Big League Politics through an intermediary that state representatives in Michigan are legally required to live in their districts. But Tlaib lived in suburban Dearborn while she was falsely representing a district in Detroit. Tlaib lied about her address on her voter registration — a crime — and kicked off her entire political career with the lie.
The Change.org petition, started by MRS. AMERICAN CITIZEN, focuses on the fake-residency claim against Tlaib, and has 282,518 signatures as of this writing. Tlaib infamously vowed to “impeach the mother—” President Trump.
Michigan Democrat congresswoman Rashida Tlaib registered to vote from a false address, and represented a state House district that she did not actually live in, according to credit score and property records obtained by Big League Politics.
Tlaib’s own father even said that Tlaib “lied” about her address in order to run for office.

More here.
To learn more about Rep. Tlaib see this story from last November.
Don’t miss the video of Tlaib celebrating with her ‘new American’ mama on election night 2018:

The issue of residency for members of Congress should be a no-brainer.  The person we send to represent us should live in the district.  In Maryland it is permitted to live in one district and run for Congress in another and it galls me to be represented by a rich big city Democrat while living in a rural red county.

question markWhat is the law where you live?  If it’s like Maryland, maybe you can work to change that and the outrageous gerrymandering that goes on to make it even easier to disenfranchise rural/conservative voters.
