Minnesota: Woman Charged with Visa Fraud; Injured Illegals to Help them Get Special Visas

Just when you think you have heard it all, here comes yet another scam on America.

Did you even know there were U-Visas that allow illegal aliens to stay in the US if they have been the victim of a crime.  This creepy woman actually cut her willing accomplices with a box cutter to help create the lie that they were victims!

Thanks to reader Cristina for sending me the story from last month.  (I am getting behind due to the distractions of life these days.)  Which reminds me to say I hope all of you are doing well and staying healthy.

From the US Justice Department:

Woman Orchestrated Scheme To Obtain U Visas, Charged With Visa Fraud

YURIDIA HERNANDEZ LINARES got off lightly for the local charges against her, but must now face federal charges for conspiracy to commit visa fraud. Don’t miss this local news account from January where we learn she pulled the trick four years earlier to obtain her own U Visa. https://www.kare11.com/article/news/crime/woman-sentenced-in-fake-armed-robbery-scam/89-fdb71b8a-d299-4c8b-8b1c-ae6ff0ee3e78

“According to the allegations in the indictment, between August 20, 2019, and September 30, 2019, LINARES conspired with other individuals to defraud the United States by making false statements to fraudulently obtain U Nonimmigrant Visas (“U-Visas”), for four individuals.

Victims of certain criminal activities that occur in the United States may be eligible to apply for and obtain a U Visa. A victim who obtains a U Visa may subsequently apply to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to adjust their status to become a lawful permanent resident of the United States.

According to the allegations in the indictment, LINARES devised and participated in a detailed scheme, whereby the four individuals each falsely reported to the Eden Prairie Police Department that they were victims of robberies committed in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

LINARES directed the individuals to file a police report stating that they were a victim of a fabricated assault, and to corroborate each other’s account of the assault. LINARES used a box cutter or other sharp object to cut the four individuals before they filed their false report with the Eden Prairie Police Department. In exchange, LINARES collected a $2,000 fee from each individual.”

Pressure on ICE to Release Detained Illegal Aliens; First Case of Alien with Coronavirus is in NJ

Never letting a good crisis go to waste, the Open Borders Left wants illegal aliens released from detention arguing that sooner or later, COVID-19 is coming for them.

Hope all of you are surviving your own incarcerations at home. Sorry I haven’t written much here lately, but I have been busy at Refugee Resettlement Watch.  You might be interested to know that although the regular refugee admissions program has been temporarily halted by the UN (yes, the UN drives the refugee train), special visa holders from Afghanistan are still being flown into America.

Here is news on the demands to free many of the 37,000 detainees ICE has in custody around the country.  From Democracy Now (so this is obviously a Leftwing perspective):

Former ICE Director: Release Immigrants from Detention or COVID-19 Will Spread Like Wildfire Inside

Alarm is growing about the safety of more than 37,000 people held in immigrant detention centers and private jails that contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, where it is nearly impossible for them to avoid close contact to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Nearly half of those detained by ICE are accused of no crime other than civil immigration violations. Immigrants at three jails in New Jersey are now on hunger strikes over unsanitary conditions that put them at high risk during the pandemic.

Sandweg who worked for the Obama Administration is a regular guest on the usual anti-Trump cable news outlets CNN and MSNBC. See Neil Munro at Breitbart yesterday on Sandweg’s crusade to spring the illegal aliens from detention. https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/03/24/obamas-ice-chief-calls-for-the-release-of-detained-migrants/

We hear from a detained person on hunger strike and speak with John Sandweg, former acting director of ICE during the Obama administration, who is calling for ICE to release thousands from detention, and Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, or CHIRLA, which just led a national effort to stop immigration enforcement actions.

[….]

ICE says there are no confirmed cases of coronavirus among detained immigrants at the facilities it runs, but at least one worker has tested positive at the Elizabeth Detention Center in New Jersey who’s a member of the medical staff. Meanwhile, two people held at the Hudson County Correctional Facility in New Jersey have tested positive. Like detention centers, the jail holds people detained for civil immigration offenses and is now on lockdown for two weeks. Immigrants at Hudson and two other New Jersey jails are now on hunger strikes over unsanitary conditions amidst the pandemic.

[….]

On Sunday, the group Never Again Action organized a protest with nearly a hundred cars outside the Hudson County Detention Center to demand New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy release people being held there. Never Again also held an in-car protest outside California Governor Gavin Newsom’s home to call for the release of detainees.

By the way, I searched in vain for any photos of their “hundred cars” and found nothing.  Continue reading if you feel like it.

Well, they got what they have been waiting for…..

ICE announced yesterday that the first detainee (this one in NJ) has tested positive for COVID-19.

First ICE detainee tests positive for coronavirus

A 31-year-old Mexican national is the first detainee in Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody to test positive for the novel coronavirus, the agency announced Tuesday.

NJ Democrat Governor Phil Murphy being urged by the Open Borders pushers to release 1000 detainees/prisoners from custody.  A NJ judge is ordering the release. http://njtoday.net/2020/03/23/new-jersey-to-release-1000-in-coronavirus-confinement/

The detainee, who has been held at the Bergen County Jail in Hackensack, New Jersey, has been quarantined and is receiving care, ICE said, adding that the agency “is suspending intake at the facility until further information is available.”

“Consistent with CDC guidelines, those who have come in contact with the individual have been cohorted and are being monitored for symptoms,” ICE said.

[….]

Confirmation of an ICE detainee in New Jersey contracting the novel coronavirus comes days after the state’s chief justice said he was ordering the release of hundreds of county jail inmates due to the dangers posed by the disease.

Immigrant advocates and some lawmakers have been calling for ICE to take a similar approach, warning that deadly consequences could result if the disease spreads in ICE facilities that have long faced criticism for how they handle even routine medical care.

Deport them faster says CIS!

Advocates’ campaigns for immigration detainees to be released have drawn sharp criticism from organizations that support the government’s crackdown on illegal immigration. Some have argued the US should instead increase the pace of deportations to lower the number of people detained.

See what CIS said here last week:

Don’t let them stack up like cord wood, and don’t release them into the streets of America

Sounds like a good idea to me!  If they want to be with their families, the families can join them in Mexico, Central America or wherever else they came from.

Chinese Illegal Aliens Turned Back at US Border; ACLU Fights for Them in Court

Paul Bedard writing a few days ago at the Washington Examiner reported that the Trump Administration’s policy known as Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) has allowed the DHS to force foreign nationals claiming they want asylum to wait on the Mexican side of the border, but that won’t last if the ACLU gets its way.

And, so far, they are making legal headway in thwarting the President’s efforts to keep Americans safe.

From the Washington Examiner:

328 Chinese nationals caught entering US illegally

At least 328 Chinese nationals trying to enter the United States illegally since January have been intercepted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials as part of heightened awareness on the borders to block the coronavirus from slipping into the nation.

Officials told Secrets Wednesday that since January, 328 Chinese were “apprehended” and sent back across the border or repatriated consistent with existing policy and procedure. Another three from South Korea, where the virus is also spreading, were also caught.

When I first learned that Chinese were the top asylum recipients after entering the US (mostly illegally) I was surprised. Maybe you will be too. https://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/publications/immigration-statistics/yearbook/2018/refugees_asylees_2018.pdf

Some 227 foreign nationals from other nations who tried to enter through legal border points from Feb. 2 through March 3 have been turned away due to the travel restriction ordered by the president and implemented by the Department of Homeland Security, officials said.

[….]

Senior administration officials said that the president’s three-year focus on the border, the new wall, and the policy of keeping illegal immigrants in Mexico while awaiting permission to enter the U.S., have gone a long way to keep the virus away, especially at the southern border.

But acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf on Tuesday raised concerns about a court challenge to the Migrant Protection Protocols policy of keeping migrants in Mexico, where the coronavirus has also landed.

“MPP has an uncertain future. We know from experience that the journey to the U.S. border puts migrants in poor conditions — and they often arrive with no passports, medical histories, or travel manifests. The administration will continue to closely monitor the virus globally, as well as in our hemisphere, and will adjust our proactive measures as necessary,” he said.

Added a senior administration official:

“We have a unique public health threat posed by individuals arriving unlawfully at the border. Any halting of MPP would exacerbate that threat.”

Who cares says the ACLU!

[Court:] “the MPP is causing extreme and irreversible harm to plaintiffs” (to the Chinese trying to get into the US).

From NPR:

Court Blocks Trump’s ‘Remain In Mexico’ Policy Along Part Of The Border

A federal appeals court has decided to block the Trump administration’s “Remain in Mexico” plan in two states along the U.S. border, following back-and-forth rulings over the program.

In its order late Wednesday, the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco said that next week the administration will have to stop making asylum-seekers wait in Mexico for the U.S. to process their claims, but that the court ban applies only to areas in its jurisdiction, Arizona and California.

The decision comes less than a week after the appeals court briefly blocked the program, then quickly suspended that order.

On Wednesday, the court said it remains “very clear” that a lower court was correct in ruling that the Trump administration program — technically called the Migrant Protection Protocols, or MPP — may violate the law. “It is equally clear,” the court added, “that the MPP is causing extreme and irreversible harm to plaintiffs,” many of whom are asylum-seekers themselves.

Read about the twists and turns of the case in the court system. Then see here what the ACLU says.

“If the administration had any respect for the law or any sense of decency, it would end this program immediately,” Judy Rabinovitz, special counsel in the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights Project, which has challenged the program, said in a statement released after the court order.

“We will continue working to permanently end this illegal and inhumane policy.”

The Tahirih Justice Center, another nonprofit group fighting the policy, expressed frustration at the limited scope of the court’s injunction.

Reader Praises Maryland Delegate Kathy Szeliga for Battling the Forces Looking to Make Maryland the Next Sanctuary State

A regular reader of RRW and ‘Frauds and Crooks‘, Michael Peppe, praised MD Delegate Kathy Szeliga in a comment to another post.

I thought it was important enough to post his praise as a stand alone post here at ‘Frauds and Crooks’ where I haven’t talked much about the sanctuary issue.

The Open Borders activists in Maryland are pushing for Maryland to join the list of Sanctuary States in the US and law enforcement officers from around the state are fighting back with the help of one tough member of the Maryland House of Delegates.

Here is Michael Peppe’s comment to me:

Angel families (families whose loved ones were killed by illegal immigrants), legal immigrants, law enforcement and legislators joined us in Annapolis as we rallied against HB 388, said Delegate Szeliga in a recent newsletter to constituents.

Maryland State Delegate Kathy Szeliga has written a truly chilling, horrifying and eye-opening newsletter to her constituents about her fight to stop activists and Democrats from making Maryland a “Sanctuary State”.

Delegate Szeliga https://msa.maryland.gov/msa/mdmanual/06hse/html/msa15446.html

Among other things, she recounts two heartbreaking anecdotes, one of a 14-year-old girl, witness to a crime, who was brutally murdered by thugs who were able to do so, having been released by a Sanctuary County, undeported, thwarting an ICE detainer. Another story recounts an eleven year old girl, molested by her own illegal Mexican grandfather, who’d been similarly released to do so, again contrary to an ICE detainer.

“Disturbing” doesn’t even cover it. Here’s an excerpt:

Crime continues to be the number one issue people across our state are concerned about. Baltimore City has been named the most dangerous city in America after 4 years of record murders and shootings. Making Maryland a sanctuary state will make our state more dangerous and put violent criminals on the streets. Shielding criminal illegal immigrants from law enforcement harms innocent people.

Take the case of 14 year old Ariana Funes-Diaz in Prince George’s County less than one year ago. She witnessed an assault and stepped in to stop it. When those involved worried she could tell the police, she was brutally murdered; forced to strip, beaten with a baseball bat, slashed with a machete, her dead body left in a tunnel. Two of her three killers were jailed a year prior on a robbery case and instead of cooperating with the ICE detainer, corrections officials released them back into the community. They are MS13 gang members, had previously committed crimes elsewhere in the USA and had been deported.

But here’s the real heart of the issue, succinctly put:

Repeat violent offenders, regardless of their immigration status, should be in prison, not released back into our communities. If repeat criminals are illegally in this country, they must be deported after they serve their sentence – every time! The crimes committed by illegal immigrants are often times not isolated incidents. A July 2018 Government Accountability Office report noted that the 197,000 criminal illegal immigrants incarcerated in federal prisons during fiscal year 2011 through 2016 had been arrested about 1.4 million times and accused of approximately 2 million offenses, about 10 crimes each.

Two million crimes!!  Heart-crushing. But Ms. Szeliga is truly a leonine warrior on this issue.

Is your state, city or county already a ‘Sanctuary’ for illegal aliens?

See the interactive map at the Center for Immigration Studies which as of February 5th lists the following states along with more than a hundred (I didn’t count them) local jurisdictions that have already declared themselves welcoming to those who are hiding from law enforcement.

California
Colorado
Connecticut
Illinois
Massachusetts
New Jersey
New Mexico
New York
Oregon
Vermont

From time to time, I hear from readers looking to move and they ask me where would be a good location.  You might use this map, overlay it with a refugee resettlement map and see what you get.

LOL! Since I know where the refugees are going, I would look at the deep south, South Carolina or Wyoming as safe choices, at least for now!

Children Forced into Fake Families to Help Illegals Enter the US

Stephen Dinan writing at the Washington Times has done a masterful job of pulling together horror stories about how children are exploited to benefit illegal aliens breaking into the US.

Have you heard a peep out of the US Catholic Bishops, or the Lutherans, the  mainstream protestants at Church World Service or the Jews at HIAS say a word about this on-going tragedy?  I haven’t!

EXCLUSIVE: Children forced into fake families to exploit border loopholes

Walfrie Eliseo Camposeco-Montejo’s pitch to the Guatemalan woman was simple: Let me use your son to get into the U.S., and I promise I’ll send him to American schools.

The ailing woman liked the idea. She gave her 12-year-old to Camposeco-Montejo, and they struck off for the U.S. in late 2016 just as another border crisis was developing. Arrested by Border Patrol agents, Camposeco-Montejo used a bogus birth certificate to claim he was the father of the boy and was given the catch-and-release treatment under the “family loophole” in U.S. policy.

The boy never made it to school.

Instead, court documents say, Camposeco-Montejo forced him into work, 10 hours a day, six days a week, picking peppers or flowers at Florida farms. He was also pressed into the overnight cleaning shift at a movie theater. He got three hours of sleep a day, and Camposeco-Montejo confiscated most of his paycheck. He said the money was to pay off the $5,000 fee they had paid the cartels to be smuggled into the U.S.

The boy, who was identified in court documents only as Minor Victim 1, or MV1, eventually managed to escape and tell his story.
Camposeco-Montejo was arrested and was sentenced to eight years in prison this month.

Dinan goes on with one horror story after another.

The Trump Administration has begun to bring the scam under control reports Dinan, but more needs to be done by Congress (which is too busy trying to get rid of Trump than to protect Americans and our borders).
