For those of you who were shocked, dismayed, stunned, depressed yesterday when you began hearing about what was in a bill passed by both Houses of Congress that was supposedly a COVID relief package, you got some solace later in the evening when President Trump went before the American people to say he would not sign the bill in its present form.
He stopped short of using the word “veto,” but said he won’t sign this monstrosity.
By the way, only six brave Republican Senators voted against the 5,000 plus page bill that NO one has read:
Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky., Ted Cruz, R-Texas, Rick Scott, R-Fla., Ron Johnson, R-Wis., Mike Lee, R-Utah, and Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn.***
In the House it was 359 for and 53 against, see here.
You can watch our President’s four minute display of leadership below (I see much of the media is calling it a rant). He asks why we are sending billions abroad when Americans are hurting through no fault of their own.
The $900bn bill includes one-off $600 payments to most Americans, but Mr Trump said the figure should be $2,000.
His statement stunned Capitol Hill.
Republicans and Democrats have been negotiating a coronavirus stimulus rescue package since July and Mr Trump – who has largely stayed out of the talks – had been expected to sign the legislation into law following its passage through Congress on Monday night.
[….]
However, Mr Trump has not specifically said he would veto the bill. Even if he does, US media say there could be enough votes from both Democrats and Republicans in Congress to override his veto.
[….]
In Tuesday night’s message from the White House, Mr Trump baulked at spending in the bill on other countries, arguing that this money should go to struggling Americans.
He said: “This bill contains $85.5m for assistance to Cambodia, $134m to Burma, $1.3bn for Egypt and the Egyptian military, which will go out and buy almost exclusively Russian military equipment, $25m for democracy and gender programmes in Pakistan, $505m to Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama.”
The president questioned why the Kennedy Center, a performing arts complex in Washington DC, was set to receive $40m when it is not open, and more than $1bn has been allocated to museums and galleries in the capital. [Which are also mostly not open!—ed]
The President has nothing to lose now if he vetoes the monster that will put the US in even greater debt (to China?) for generations to come. It will reaffirm his strong leadership that will be needed for the years ahead.
Yeah, they can override his veto, but then we will all know who puts Americans First and who puts us last. After all, the midterm elections are not far off.
The other day I posted a list of conservative news aggregator sites (see it updated here with more reader suggestions), but you should be reading the leftwing propaganda sites from time to time as well—very edifying. Like this one….
Common Dreamssnarks that Vice President Mike Pence, who they intimate is an Islamophobe, got the Chinese Virus vaccine and by doing so, they say, he is a hypocrite.
I’m posting this to show you what the hard Lefties are writing, but also to inform you that Turkish Muslims living in Germany are the creators of the Pfizer vaccine.
What Common Dreams wants its readers to know is this—yousee all immigrants are good people who benefit society.
But, frankly for every deserving immigrant I can give you ten frauds, crooks and criminals as I have been saying and cataloging for over a decade.
Pence, Who Backed Muslim Visa Ban, Gets Vaccine Invented by Muslim Immigrants
Pence also praised far right-wing evangelical leader John Hagee. Hagee has said that Muslim Americans are not real Americans.
Defeated Vice President Mike Pence got the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine on Friday.
Here is why he is a hypocrite.
Pence served for four years in the Trump administration, which initiated a visa ban against Muslims. Although he had in 2015 called any such ban “unconstitutional,” he folded when Trump insisted on it and proudly stood behind the Mad Presidentwhen he signed the order.
Pence also praised far right-wing evangelical leader John Hagee. Hagee has said that Muslim Americans are not real Americans.
Pence has, further, improperly pressured USAID to route US foreign aid to the Middle East away from Muslims and to Christians instead.
Pence is a serial science denier. He says smoking cigarettes does not cause cancer. He has called the human-caused climate emergency “a myth.”
Ugur Sahin and Özlem Türeci
The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine involves science and Muslim immigrants, so why is he getting it?
Pfizer partnered in developing the vaccine with a German firm, BioNTech, which was founded and is headed by the Turkish-German husband-wife team of Ugur Sahin and Özlem Türeci. BioNTech really developed the vaccine, though Pfizer is the one with the ability to mass-manufacture and distribute it.
The two are Turkish-German Muslims. [Gasp!]
Author Juan Cole goes on to report(breathlessly) that Sahin and Türeci are now both billionaires. It is unclear why that matters.
As far as I am concerned the jury is still out on whether the vaccine is a success or not.
Meanwhile, search “new Covid strain identified in UK” and see that the world is in a panic as evidenced by every major news outlet spreading more fear. Of course the big SCIENCE question is: will Pfizer’s vaccine work against the new strain (assuming it even works on the original strain)?
(39)With 212Million registered voters and 66.2% voting,140.344 M voted. Now if Trump got 74 M, that leaves only 66.344 M for Biden. These numbers don’t add up to what we are being told. Lies and more Lies!https://t.co/pY3n6DEWzPhttps://t.co/5FSNfJw992

Any chance that more than 70 million Americans are going to let this go? Nope!
“[I]t’s only the Democratic Party—which is the oldest political party in the world—that stands for the ideas and ideals of American liberty.”
(Steve Schmidt, the guy who lost the Presidency for John McCain in 2008)
“Wolves in sheep’s clothing….never on our team to start with!”
(Sarah Palin, populist VP candidate in 2008)
While on the subject of political rats, see yesterday’s postabout Elizabeth Neumann, I thought you might like to hear about another rat—Steve Schmidt, former Bush and McCain aide who has come out of the closet to announce Surprise! he is a Democrat.
Actually Itold you about him here as he was one of the founders of the Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump pac that spent millions inundating the airwaves with vile anti-Trump ads as they pretended to be Republicans who wanted Trump gone.
That post was the inspiration for my category ‘political rats.‘
Early last week, Schmidt went public validating Sarah Palin’s claims that Schmidt was a traitor who undermined the Republican Presidential campaign of Senator John McCain.
Here (below) is the news of Schmidt’s outing.
By the way, wikipedia reports that his anger at Trump was first about moving the capital of Israel to Jerusalem (he did not want it moved, said Trump would have blood on his hands) and secondly he opposed Trump’s policies involving the southern border. Anti-Israel, pro-Open borders: Sounds to me that he was a Dem all along.
Longtime GOP strategist Steve Schmidt announces he’s registering Democrat
Schmidt made the announcement during an episode of the “Battleground” podcast published Monday, as he and co-host David Plouffewere discussing the Republican House members and state attorneys general that backed Texas’s ill-fated election lawsuit before the Supreme Court.
Weasels united! Isn’t it interesting that David Plouffe, who ran Obama’s 2008 campaign against McCain, and Schmidt who was running McCain’s campaign, were pals.
“I spent 29 years as a Republican, I’ve spent two and a half as an independent, and later this afternoon I will register as a member of the Democratic Party,” Schmidt told Plouffe. “Because in America today, it’s only the Democratic Party—which is the oldest political party in the world—that stands for the ideas and ideals of American liberty.”
Schmidt worked on the the presidential campaign of late Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) in 2008, and on former President George W. Bush’s campaign in 2004.
The former Republican renounced the party in 2018 and identified as an independent. He’s been one of the president’s fiercest critics, and is a co-founder of The Lincoln Project, a prominent anti-Trump PAC.
