Southern Poverty Law Center to Spend $30 Million to Register Voters in Southern States

Earlier this week, Margaret Huang, the (new!) president of the Southern Poverty Law Center announced the giveaway to NON PARTISAN groups promoting voter registration for people of color!

SPLC to invest up to $30 million on nonpartisan voter outreach

Image from 2017 campaign for Amnesty International, Margaret Huang in center.

I am thrilled to share with you that we’re launching the SPLC’s Vote Your Voice initiative to help support voter registration and mobilization efforts in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Mississippi.

We’ll be investing up to $30 million from our endowment in nonpartisan, nonprofit voter outreach organizations in these states to increase voter registration and participation among people of color.

You know what would be so funny!  Black and brown conservative groups in those states should apply for the grants and see if they are truly grants for nonpartisan voter registration!  Opportunity to sue the SPLC if rejected???

Here is more of what Huang had to say:

As you know, our nation has a long history of denying voting rights to its citizens, especially Black and brown people, women and young people. While we have seen gains in voting rights and access in recent decades, since the U.S. Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act in 2013, there has been a resurgence of state-sponsored voter suppression that is targeting communities of color “with almost surgical precision.”

See one of my many posts on the Southern Poverty Law Center: https://fraudscrookscriminals.com/2020/05/23/having-problems-at-facebook-twitter-and-google-thank-the-splc/

These tactics include purging voter rolls, blocking rights restoration efforts, eliminating polling places, scaling back early voting, instituting onerous voter ID laws, limiting access to voting by mail and other measures. As I’m sure you are aware, last Tuesday’s primary election in Georgia — a state that has been a hotbed of voter suppression efforts — was an operational disaster. It’s a deeply troubling preview of what the Nov. 3 election could look like.

This initiative is especially important right now, as millions of people across the country feel the urgency to make their voices heard this fall after the continued silence from our leaders on the many Black people being killed by police. Voting won’t solve this problem the day after the election, but in order to begin dismantling white supremacy, we need to ensure that every voter of color is able to cast their ballot without interference or hardship.

The work ahead of us will not be easy. The COVID-19 pandemic has and will continue to have a disproportionate impact on democratic participation for communities of color who have been harmed most deeply by the health and economic crisis and who will encounter greater barriers to voter participation given the new risks of voting in person on Election Day.

Throughout the five states where this initiative is focused, numerous organizations have been tirelessly working to promote voter registration and participation to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard and everyone’s vote is counted. Many of these groups struggle to secure the resources they need to conduct outreach due to a once-in-a-generation economic recession. They are also facing new barriers to reaching voters in an era of social distancing where face-to-face canvassing has been curtailed.

That’s where we want to help.

In addition to supporting voter registration and mobilization activities among voters of color, we’ll be seeking to particularly aid those who face the greatest barriers to participation, including returning citizens, young people, individuals who have been purged from voter rolls, and infrequent voters who are not usually contacted by outreach groups.

We’re also aiming to help groups build capacity in between federal election cycles — too much of this work is transactional where groups are only supported ahead of presidential and congressional elections. We plan to help sustain these organizations during local election cycles by providing multi-year grants.

Non-citizens Discovered Voting in Illinois; Public Interest Legal Foundation Getting Involved

“We’ve warned and proven for years that Motor Voter was pushing noncitizens onto voter rolls. Then Illinois and other states made it worse by automating the process.”

( PILF President and General Counsel J. Christian Adams )

The numbers are small so far, but you know there is very high likelihood that this is going on in every state where voters are signed up as they get their drivers licenses.

Here is the story from Chicago’s WGNTV-9:

Hundreds of non-citizens registered to vote in Illinois due to technical glitch

CHICAGO — Illinois lawmakers are raising questions about the integrity of state elections after the secretary of state admitted hundreds of non-citizens were registered as voters, and could have cast ballots illegally in the 2018 election.

In a letter, Secretary of State Jesse White’s office said a “programming error” in a signature pad at driver services facilities led to hundreds of non-U.S. citizens accidentally being registered as voters.

The Secretary of State’s Office said the problem has been fixed Tuesday, but state lawmakers and election authorities are just beginning to raise concerns.

“We view it as a significant problem,” said Matt Dietrich of the Illinois State Board Of Elections.

More here.

Now see the news that J. Christian Adam’s Public Interest Legal Foundation is getting involved in the case:

(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) – January 23, 2020. The Public Interest Legal Foundation (PILF) initiated a private investigative effort into recent official disclosures that Illinois’ automatic voter registration system reportedly invited noncitizen DMV customers onto the voter rolls. More than a dozen are reported to have voted in the 2018 Midterms as a result.

Visit PILF to learn more and see if there is some way you can get involved in insuring the integrity of your county’s voter rolls.  You might find some way to help the President get reelected by helping to identify those who plan to cheat in order to keep the President from another term in the White House.

Will Immigrant Voters Sway 2020 Presidential Contest?

Opinions vary!

No wonder Hillary HATES the Electoral College—it dilutes the immigrant vote!

Of course Open Borders, Inc. is assuming that and at every corner of their movement they are driving the naturalization process and making it easy for the ‘new Americans’ to register to vote.

But, will the new voters turn out, and are they located in the right places?

Those are just some of the questions raised in a very informative piece at a Middle Eastern news outlet (MENAFN) entitled:

Immigrant voters stand in Trump’s re-election path

Of course it is self-evident that the primary drive to flood the US with immigrants is to ultimately get them voting because at this point in time, a large majority will vote for the Dems.

Republican optimists think they can persuade a growing number who came here legally to support the rule of law, after all the legal immigrants did follow the law.  However, that won’t be nearly enough to counter what they fear is an anti-immigrant message from the President.

The Democrat Party message of free stuff is pretty persuasive as well!

But perhaps the most interesting nugget of information in here that I hadn’t thought of (duh!), and explains the enormous hatred the Electoral College holds for Dems, is that most immigrants choose to live in states like New York and California that the Dems have already sown-up.

In other words, more immigrant voters in NY and CA won’t change the Electoral map.

By encouraging more Democrat-voting immigrants to go to Texas, Georgia, Arizona and Florida (to name a few), they hope to get those states in line as well. Others to follow!

I guess that is why the US Refugee Program and its Leftwing resettlement agencies sought to bring the ‘joys of diversity’ to as many rural states and small towns as they could—so those refugees might someday be joined with other immigrants to change most of America.

Here is just some of the article you should read:

(MENAFN – Gulf Times) This is where a nation changes: a public school auditorium that moonlights as a veritable citizenship factory.

At the M O Campbell Educational Centre, where murals honouring the arts and sciences adorn the walls, US immigration officials routinely hold packed naturalisation ceremonies.

Immigrants approved for citizenship walk in, take the oath of allegiance, and walk out as Americans and as a small army of new voters.

‘It will never, ever be easier to register than it is this morning, US district judge Keith P Ellison [NOT Minnesota Ellison—ed], who presided over a ceremony last month, told the 2,155 immigrants from more than 100 countries who had just taken their citizenship oaths.

‘The record for registrations is 89% of those who are sworn in. … Let’s see if we can break that record today.

Amish Soni, a 34-year-old radiologist from India holding a small American flag, was one of the 85% who registered to vote that morning, aided by a volunteer from the League of Women Voters. He ‘definitely plans to vote in 2020, partly because he thinks the healthcare system should be fixed, but also: ‘I’m not a big fan of Donald Trump. And he’s far from the only one.

At ceremonies like these across the country, hundreds of thousands of immigrants are expected to receive their US citizenship and become eligible to vote before November 2020, gently reshaping and threatening the electoral path that President Donald Trump must thread to win re-election.

Over the last two decades, naturalised immigrants have grown into a force at the ballot box, with the US recently swearing in more than 700,000 foreign-born US citizens each year.

[….]

Surveys show that many of the new citizens are liberal-leaning, which is one of several demographic trends helping put some historically red states such as Texas, Arizona and Georgia closer to Democrats’ reach.

[….]

Diego says they will come out in opposition to Trump: “A lot of folks are responding to the climate of fear and division and general intimidation against immigrant and refugee communities.” You can be sure Diego and his pals are making sure that a climate of fear is sufficiently whipped-up!

According to data collected by the New Americans Campaign, a coalition of non-profits, almost a third of US immigrants hoping to naturalise this year were most interested in gaining the power to vote the ‘top reason by far, said Melissa Rodgers, the director of programmes at the Immigrant Legal Resource Center, which runs the coalition.

[….]

Filing an application does not necessarily lead to naturalisation; the denial rate is usually about one in 10. Immigrant advocacy groups have complained that the Trump administration has allowed a backlog to pile up, putting some applicants at risk of missing the 2020 election.

Latino and Asian immigrants are particularly potent additions to the electorate, with turnout rates that are often five to eight percentage points higher than their natural-born counterparts, according to Census estimates.

[….]

At the presidential level, naturalised immigrants’ voting power is largely diluted by the electoral college. New citizens most commonly settle in Democratic bastions such as California and New York, where their votes are not expected to affect the next presidential election.

Along with Texas, Florida is a key exception. The battleground state adds between 70,000 and 100,000 naturalised citizens each year, with more than 20,000 born in communist Cuba, a more conservative voter bloc that has helped Republicans maintain razor-thin majorities in the state.

There is much more here!

I am by no means an election strategist.  What do you think?

I do know this:  The take away message for at least this next Presidential election cycle should be—save the Electoral College—and you better VOTE!

Trump Administration Halts Deportation of Possibly 300,000 Aliens

Hundreds of thousands of migrants have been here for more than a decade under a program that gave them temporary legal status, but is a flat-out sham.

Organized demonstrations like this one have happened wherever enclaves of certain ethnic groups have settled.

Temporary Protected Status protects those who were already in the country from about ten countries when something bad happened in their home country and that country claims it can’t take them back.  In order to get TPS status the migrant had to have been in the US already through some other means, including through illegal activities like visa overstays.

The protection was supposed to last no more than two years!

In reality the impoverished country from which they came doesn’t want them back because some are crooks and criminals, but others, those working and/or collecting benefits of some sort, send millions ‘home’ in the form of remittances.

Dollars that would go to fueling our economy now go to prop-up the economies of the third world.

Trump initially wanted to stop it, but the extensive legal network of Open Borders Inc. filed lawsuits and have thus caused the government to back down.

Hundreds of thousands (you know they have drivers licenses and are likely voting) will get to stay until about two weeks before the President is sworn in in January 2021.

Here is the depressing news at the Washington Examiner:

DHS to extend deportation protection program for citizens of six countries into 2021

The Trump administration is extending a program that allows illegal immigrants from six specific countries to obtain legal protection from deportation due to their home country’s inability to take back its own citizens.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, an agency within the Department of Homeland Security, announced Friday it will continue granting protections under the Temporary Protected Status program for people from El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Sudan through Jan. 4, 2021. USCIS will publish a 27-page notice in the Federal Register detailing the plan on Monday.

The move could affect an estimated 300,000 in the U.S., according to a Congressional Research Service March estimate.

The move comes weeks after a federal judge ordered a temporary stop to the winding down of the six programs. DHS extended TPS due to the unresolved litigation over related cases.

Under TPS, those from certain countries who were in the U.S. illegally at the time of a natural disaster, war, famine, or similar situation, can apply for permission to legally remain at work in the country for two-year terms until their home country says it is stable for people to return.

Many of these countries had had their programs renewed many times, some for up to 15 years. Some recipients have been in the United States for 20 years under the program. [They put down roots and then scream how unfair America is for wanting them to go home!—ed]

[….]

Former DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen also extended protections for recipients from Syria, South Sudan, and Yemen. Citizens from 10 countries are TPS recipients as of Friday.

More here.

I have a few posts on TPS here at ‘Frauds and Crooks,’ but more here at RRW.

Just another reminder, I am writing almost daily again at Refugee Resettlement Watch because news is coming fast and furious these days on the US Refugee Admissions Program.

TPS recipients are not refugees!

Election Fraud Charges Brought in Michigan

I know that by now you might be thinking this blog could be renamed Michigan Frauds and Crooks.

Is it Michigan or is it that papers like the Detroit News are doing their jobs?

And, to one of my critics—you see I do write about American crooks when the news interests me!

Thanks to reader Cathy for this story published yesterday:

Southfield city clerk charged with 6 felonies tied to November election

Detroit — Southfield City Clerk Sherikia L. Hawkins was charged Monday with six felony counts over “unauthorized and inaccurate” changes to absentee ballots in the November 2018 election.

Sherikia L. Hawkins

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson made a joint announcement of the charges in Detroit, calling it a “rare” case.

“Voting is fundamental to the very essence of our democracy,” Nessel said during a Monday news conference. “It is incumbent upon state governments to safeguard the electoral process and ensure that every voter’s right to cast a ballot is protected.”

Allegations that Hawkins altered 193 absentee voter records came to light during the 14-day canvass following the election. Benson said the Oakland County Clerk’s Office reported with the Bureau of Elections “the potential for these irregularities and from there we began our investigation.”

[….]

Hawkins, a Democrat who just a few months ago was honored by the state party with the Dingell/Levin Award at its Legacy Dinner in Detroit, could not be reached Monday at her office for comment or a number listed in public records. Her attorney also could not be reached.

[….]

After taking office in January, Benson and Nessel, both Democrats, wanted to make sure the state’s elections were protected from “every conceivable threat,” Nessel said.

“Every citizen must know that when they enter the ballot box, the vote that they cast will be counted and that the collective will of the voters will be carried out,” Nessel said.

Hawkins,38, was arraigned Monday in 46th District Court in Southfield on the charges, which include election law-falsifying returns or records, forgery of a public record, misconduct in office and multiple counts of using a computer to commit a crime.

Forgery of a public record is a 14-year offense, Nessel said.

[….]

“After the city has examined the underlying facts of this matter, we will explore all appropriate and legal avenues to protect the voting process and rights of the Southfield Citizenry,” the statement issued by [City Council] spokesman Michael Manion said. “Mrs. Hawkins will be on administrative leave with pay at this time.”

Hawkins is paid $101,500 per year in Southfield as the city’s clerk.

[….]

Hawkins made history in November 2017 as the first African-American elected as city clerk, according to the clerk’s page on the city’s website. She formerly served as Pontiac’s city clerk.

Just for fun, see my tag for ‘Michigan’ to see how often the state has been the scene of some criminal activity reported here at Frauds and Crooks.
